Looking for riding partners Vancouver or Seattle to San Francisco starting mid-July
Enviado por Anonymous el Jue, 2010-03-25 13:10.
Hi - I'm planning a tour down the pacific coast from Seattle or Vancouver to San Francisco starting on or around July 17th. I'm looking for possible touring partners, especially people who have bike touring experience. By July I will have had some, but not much. I'm 25, female, and would prefer to go with females in their 20s. Let me know if you're interested!

West Coast Bike Touring
Hi,
I rode that portion (Portland - San Francisco) last summer and it was to say the least, interesting... very beautiful, but my general opinion of the Hwy 101/1 riding was not my favorite. It was dangerous (no shoulders, windy curves in the road, little to no visibility pending the weather, and just overall scary with the drivers). I did ride this portion by myself, so I had to try to be super careful not to get hit by a car or have someone not see me at all and come flying around a corner. I was not a fan of it - not trying to discourage you, but at least give you a head's up that it's not easy riding. It was very stressful when I was constantly looking out for my life and cars; I didn't take nearly the amount of photos I wanted as it was hard to pull over and snap pictures safely. I almost hitch-hiked to the finish because the traffic and cars were so bad, but I didn't want to do that... I also, didn't want to die 2-3 days from the end. I wound up biking the coast but it was definitely the worst riding of my entire summer (east coast to west coast trip).
If you want to read about it, I kept a blog and wrote daily about the trip. It's at http://kiki.bikesacrossthe.us and feel free to contact me if you have any questions or want to chat about the experience.
Wow. That's what I keep
Wow. That's what I keep hearing, although I really want to do this ride! Any alternative routes you know of? Are there better sections of the PCH? I live in SF, and I thought about flying north and biking south, but if you know better sections, that would be helpful. Or, if you know of alternative routes? Anyway, thanks for the honesty - I was thinking of heading there alone as well, and you're really helping me change my mind!

Hi, I am very seriously thinking about taking a Greyhound bus from Salt Lake City (where I live) to Seattle in the next few days, and starting my trip there. I was planning on biking from Seattle to San Diego (if I can meet up with some riders along the way.) All my friends back home have bailed on me, so it leaves me with no other option. If you want to get together and do part of the trip together let me know. I'm 23, male, and live in Salt Lake.
You can email me at bradkasteler@gmail.com if you have other questions or if you're really interested.
I'm sure the PCH is scary at times and rough, but the beauty and scenery is worth it for me, just to try it.

Interested
Hi there. A few questions:
Will you still do the ride after that comment?
If so would you consider riding with a 23-year-old male?
(Namely, me. I can assure you I'm utterly sane. brandonsmith.com/about, twitter.com/greenletters and facebook.com/brandoniamsmith are all me. I wouldn't mind a "friending" for investigation's sake.)
And lastly, if the answers to both those question is yes, would you consider not taking the highway the last commenter described? There would seem to be plenty other routes we could take to get from and to roughly the same places.
Whatever your responses, I wish you the best of luck!
-Brandon
Very Interested!
Hi, Brandon!, My name is Brad Kasteler and I'm a 23 year old male from Salt Lake City, Utah. I just saw your comment about biking along the Pacific Coast in June or July. I'm extremely interested because I've been planning this trip for 6 months now with my friend, but he just bailed on me last minute, leaving me no one to go with. I love to hear back from you as soon as possible. I can assure you that I am completely sane as well. If you want to talk further you can email me at bradkasteler@gmail.com , or you can just post on the Thread that I made today entitled "Pacific Coast Highway Trip".
I look forward to hearing from you!!

Hi, I am thinking of touring
Hi, I am thinking of touring from astoria down through california june-july. I plan to go slow, and have never toured before. Maybe we can meet up somewhere along the way!
I want to bike the Pacific Coast so bad!
Hi courtneysli, my name is Brad Kasteler and i just read your posting about biking the Pacific Coast, or at least a portion of it. Im so interested because I've been planning on doing it this month or next, but my friend bailed on me last minute, leaving me hanging. Anyways, I saw that a few of the people on this Thread are interested as well. I just Replied to Brandon Smith's comment saying that i would like to bike with him as well. THis is actually my first touring trip, too. But I am so dedicated to it, that i can't back out now. I'm looking to go preferrably later this month (June), possibly into July (my work schedule is pretty flexible), and i would love to do it with someone. Let me know if you are interested. If i can at least bike a portion of the Pacific Coast this summer...my summer would be complete. I am a 23 year old male from Salt Lake City, and completely sane (no need to worry). I am attending the University of Utah and majoring in Finance.
You can email me back at bradkasteler@gmail.com , or just reply on this thread. I look forward to hearing from you!!

You'll have 10,000 friends to ride with on 7/17
Just a quick thought...if you leave on July 17th, you'll have the opportunity to ride with 10,000 people participating in the annual Seattle to Portland bike ride. Could be an interesting way to start the trip!
