Lacking Critical Features and Non-Working Features

Why is there no way to delete, much less edit, forum postings, especially those that are now obsolete?

Also, the "upload images" and "drop & drag image here" on the profile page are completely non-functional.  One would think that the former is a live link, but it's not.  And dragging an image (properly sized) only opens up a full-size window with that image, causing the WS site/profile page to "disappear."

Lastly, why is the Russian language, or any number of others for that matter, no longer an option on the profile page?  WS is a worldwide community and should reflect that.

Where's Waldo?  The new website makes it easier to access the host map page, but it is extremely difficult to see where the hosts are.  The host icon is too small and the color is lost with all the green background.

Thanks David - the photo issues are on the list to be fixed, thank you.  As for the languages, we took the 5 most commonly spoken languages and created the site in each of those.  Other users (especially if using the app) will be able to have the site in their native language.  It definitely is important and we continue to do the best we can.

For forum posts - that we be up to staff to edit or remove posts. If you have suggestions on what should be removed, please do let us know.  Thank you!

Tahverlee,

Good news then on the photo-fixing problems!  Do you have an estimate when that may be completed?

Overall, the new site is attractive, with some improvements, though requiring more clicks just to get from "A" to "B" than perhaps are necessary.  I understand that glitches happen, so keep up the good work to smooth things out.

If those five languages then are the most common, what would speakers of Chinese say?  I still encourage the addition of others, as the former site offered.  It seems a simple fix.  You never know what conversations may ensue when hosts and guests discover they have even more in common than bicycle travel.  It's part of being a community.

Regarding deleting and editing posts, what you wrote below is confusing.

"For forum posts - that we be up to staff to edit or remove posts. If you have suggestions on what should be removed, please do let us know.  Thank you!"

You seem to be saying that only staff can do either.  No.  Posters need to have the ability to control their own posts.  Deleting posts by staff is a waste of your time.  Editing posts, perhaps only a word or two here, a date or price or two there or something more substantial, should also be the sole province of posters.  Otherwise, it's an inefficient, cumbersome process for both parties.

At the very least, as the Adventure Cycling Association did before it eliminated its Companions Wanted feature, provide posters with the means to edit their own posts subject to approval by staff before re-posting as a way of quality (terms of use/TOU) control.  Best of all, as does Crazy Guy on a Bike, give posters full control and trust in them to abide by the TOU.

Now, as to that obsolete post of mine...

Thank you for the additional feedback - this is good info.  I'll take it back to the team and see what we can do. Again, much appreciated!

Tahverlee,

Thank you for sharing my recommendations with the staff.

The now-obsolete posting I mentioned is just such an example arguing in favor of full poster editing and deleting control over content.  I was able to delete the two replies I had written to folks who responded, yet unable to touch in any way my original posting.  It remains still in its original wording, followed by those two responders' replies, now devoid of any semblance of continuity and conversational flow.  Little more than gibberish.  As the old ad used to say, "Leave the driving to us."

I was so excited for the new webpage but I find it and the app are not intuitive at all. I am a host only. I couldn’t find how to log in to the web page right away. That should be somewhere at the top of the page or in the menu. Getting to the info I need was really hard to find.

When I open the app on my phone, I try to log in and it never seems to go anywhere and all I can see is the map of my location. The menu has no choices for me that are useful. ( Login, Register, Settings, About, Quick Start Guide, FAQs, Warmshowers News, Social Channels, Report an Issue). If I am logged in, it should change to Log Out. There is nothing that allows me to edit my availability or tell me if I have messages. Am I doing something wrong?

I HIGHLY suggest you get some beta testing of both the app and the website by a group of your regular users to make improvements.

Thanks for listening.

Thank you for taking the time to send useful feedback.  Firstly, we are aware of issues with the app and are working on it diligently.  That is likely the core of the issues you are facing.  Secondly, the new website itself was tested extensively by users in our community.  Several rounds were implemented.  Its a journey and there are many areas still to be developed and we are working through them as quickly as we can.  If you have any specific bugs to report, please do so by using: https://www.warmshowers.org/contact.  That way we can ensure it is logged with our technology support staff.  Thank you again.

1. It would be great if Inbox would have an option to filter for unread msgs.

2. it would be great if List of hosts would have a filter to filter out "I'm on tour" members
