Warmshowers Forums Disabled

Dear Warmshowers Community, we know this is a time of concern for everyone around the globe due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  In an effort to streamline communication and better address the current needs of our community in a timely manner, we are temporarily disabling the forums and directing everyone to the Warmshowers Facebook Group. This will allow the Warmshowers Community a centralized place for comments, questions, and concerns related to touring and hosting. As always, we ask that you follow our community guidelines when posting.

i would prefer to receive requests t stay at my home through my email account rather than by phone. This allows for more flexibility in communication.

Remove your phone number

The phone number is optional, and I generally encourage people not to use it. If you remove yours, you'll only get requests by email.

Communication Preference.

Shutting down the phone eliminates those last minute callers. In addition, the email keeps a written record of what is said. That way one can refamiliarize if a request is way in advance.

I think in the 5 years we have been hosting only one request has come by phone. We ask people to use email and this has worked well. As Jack says ( a great guest by the way) email provides a record of key points whereas a phone call has to rely on my fading memory. Text also works well.
In any case we are very bad at checking phone messages and they can wait days whereas email is checked more than daily. Just ask people to use email.

over the 5 seasons of hosting the request have come all 3 ways. It honestly does not matter to me which way they do it first. If i get a text I often will call them back, pretty much a dark ages texter here with a flip phone . When I do talk to them I do ask that they send me an email through the website so that I can easily check their profile.
All have complied with that suggestion and I confirm with them via the email and text. I often get text relating their progress and ETA.
Anything that makes their journey less stressful is fine with me. Honestly it does not matter how they contact me, I have enjoyed everyone of the 70 some folks who have pedaled up here. Well one guy ran up here but the same difference.
