Bucharest to Istanbul - route suggestions please!!

I am going to cycle from Bucharest to Istanbul starting next week and am interested in any route suggestions? Main thing is avoiding really busy roads. At this stage I am thinking of going via Ruse and Valiko Tarnovo but I haven't decided yet. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Bucharest-Ruse-Veliko Tarnovo

Bucharest-Ruse-Veliko Tarnovo is a major European long-distance driving route, with most of the trucks from Western Europe to Turkey going that way. There is even a scary tunnel between Ruse and Veliko Tarnovo. I sure wouldn't want to cycle it.

If you go east from Bucharest and cross into Bulgaria at Calarasi (vehicle ferry across the Danube) or Vama Veche (dry-land border), then go mainly along the coast, you'll have quieter roads.

Hi Chris

Hi Chris

Thanks heaps for your response. I've followed the EV 6 since Vienna and have really enjoyed that route so continuing to the Black Sea and then to Vama Veche onwards to Istanbul sounds good. Any other tips appreciated!

Cheers

Entering Istanbul. I

Entering Istanbul. I recommend using the D020 and turning off at Kemerburgaz and heading towards the coast at Sariyar. You can then cycle most of the way into the centre on the coastal promenade or take the ferry from Sariyar. Istanbul isn't a great place to cycle. I heard horror stories from other cyclists in Istanbul who'd taken different routes.
