cycling in Tasmania, equipment rental

Hi friends of bicycle touring

I am wondering if anyone has done any cycling in Tasmania and has info to share on getting equipment (including a bike!), i.e. in Hobart for the duration of a four week cycle trip. I didn't bring my own bike, so I would need to buy (and then sell again) or preferably rent a bike and pannier bags, etc. Has anyone done something like this and has any advice for me on where to go for that type of thing? Thanks loads,

Rainer, currently still in Melbourne, VIC

Hi there,

Hi there,

I did a bit of cycling around Tassie and stayed in Hobart, there are a couple of bike shops here, a giant and a specialized retailers, no idea if they sell panniers though, I have to go there today, I'll have a look but I'd say you'd have them cheaper in Melbourne anyway. You also might want to check out the bike kitchen, a small community that provides free assistance to repair your bike, they also have second hand bikes and parts and they are very cool, they might be able to help you out.
Have fun cycling around here it's great !

So the giant shop has a

So the giant shop has a couple of bikes you could use for touring ranging from $600 to $1600... they have one type of panniers, brand top peak but super expensive (about $140 the single pannier !).
If you need more info it would be easy for me to go around the shops, I'm staying in the center, dont hesitate !
Cheers

G'day Boris

G'day Boris

Thanks mate for the advice. I made a note of that bike shop. I am thinking that given my limited time, I might be better off finding a place that rents bikes or perhaps sells them and buys them back after the trip. Anyway, I shall have a look at their offerings and see what transpires.

Cheers,

Rainer
