Cycling from Halifax to Buffalo (then south across the USA) in March 2017

Hello,

I was wondering whether anyone could tell me what the weather is usually like for cycling in Nova Scotia, Maine, New York in March? We are currently cycling across Canada, and plan to work over the winter in Halifax. Our work permits expire at the end of March, so we are planning on starting cycling again around then (probably departing Halifax around 20th March). At the moment our plan is to head to Buffalo, then directly south to New Orleans, then into Texas and continue into Mexico from there.

We're both Australian and have heard very mixed things about the weather around this time. Is cycling in March just crazy? I don't fancy freezing to death on the bike.

Any suggestions or info is greatly appreciated :)

Thanks.

I don't know about new

I don't know about new England, but I grew up in Halifax. The end of March can still be quite chilly - depending on the year, daily highs won't be better than 12-15C and it rains a lot. Although it was quite unusual, Spring 2015 we still had snow on the ground up until beginnings of May. Usually most of the snow is gone by the end of March.

If you're set on cycling end of March in Nova Scotia, make sure to have warm clothes and raingear, but with those you will be fine.
