Biking on the Curonian Spit (Lithuania to Kaliningrad)

I have an idea that I want to make a small holiday with my kid, biking from Klaipeda to Gdansk going along the coast. From studying maps it looks as it would be awesome to go on the Curonian Spit, but I wonder how the border is there and what kind of visa would I need? Anyone having an experience. As I understand it the simple three-day tourist visa for Kaliningrad is not accepted at that check point. Am I right?

I saw that there were now

I saw that there were now (since July 1st !) 8-day visa, free online.

I am thinking to cycle Gdynia - Kaliningrad - Klaipeda. Has anybody done that this month?

(Last year I was in Lithuania, cycled from Klaipeda to Nida and back, that was a nice stretch.)

cycling the Split is awesome,

cycling the Split is awesome, both in Lithuania and Kaliningrad Oblast, beautiful nature! NIDA is one of the nicest places I've ever been to. you definitely need to get your visa beforehand... being able to do that online is a great new opportunity! Just be prepared for your passport being checked at the border 5!!!! times, both entering and leaving the Russian part, by officers with stern, stony faces... Cars are thoroughly searched, on a bike you are pretty exotic- they just asked me to open my panniers but didn't check what's inside. feel free to contact me for info!
