China - How to get bicycle onto long distance bus service?

Hi all,

In April I'm heading north from near Shanghai to Qingdao to catch the ferry to Seoul in South Korea, via the China long-distance bus service.

Does anyone have any experience of taking a bicycle on the long-distance bus services in China? From asking at the bus station I know the bike is allowed on (sometimes at the discretion of the driver).

But I don't know whether the bike has to be packaged in any way to be allowed on the bus?

Thank you for any input and tips!

Hi Duncan

Hi Duncan

I have transported bicycle on a bus in southern XinJiang (Kuche to Kashigar) in 2009. it was just after the 7-5 incident (a riot), so it was a bit tense with everything.

The bicycle did not need to be packaged, you may have to pay extra to the bus driver. probably at a cost of extra seat.
