people don't reply or offer on warm showers

Warmshowers Forums Disabled

Dear Warmshowers Community, we know this is a time of concern for everyone around the globe due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  In an effort to streamline communication and better address the current needs of our community in a timely manner, we are temporarily disabling the forums and directing everyone to the Warmshowers Facebook Group. This will allow the Warmshowers Community a centralized place for comments, questions, and concerns related to touring and hosting. As always, we ask that you follow our community guidelines when posting.

people don't reply or offer on warm showers

I was excited about a website to host those on bike tours. However I have found not only does no one contact you after you post your tour to offer, even directly contacting people gets no response?

not much of a community...

Hmm... it looks like you have

Hmm... it looks like you have only contacted one person at this point. That's not a very good sample. I think you should probably read the FAQ and especially How do you find and request hospitality. And try again!

We sure do want every person to respond in a timely manner to every request. But there will always be those who do not answer or who cannot host for whatever reason.

Oh, I think I see the problem

Oh, I think I see the problem - you posted a general request in the forums, https://www.warmshowers.org/content/looking-cyclistshosts-denmark-germany-austria-and-switzerland -

Most users don't read the forums regularly. That's why we have the map and other ways of searching for hosts. When you contact a host directly and make a request, you'll often get a reply.

I think I was right the first time: you should read the FAQ and especially How do you find and request hospitality. And try again!

We have had a few cyclists come through and stay with us. We often get their URL or receive cards. So I guess our luck is pretty good.

Of course if you host a fellow from the low countries you had better brush up on your Flemish or Dutch.

I'm sorry you feel that

I'm sorry you feel that Warmshowers is in some way failing you.

Can't really comment on people offering accommodation, other than to say I personally wouldn't want to be making offers over this forum.

When I joined it was clear to me that if I want accommodation I need to find out where the local Warmshowers hosts are and ask them to put me up; that's just the way it works.

Having said that, I agree there is absolutely no excuse for ignorance, and if you contact a host and they don't bother to get back to you that is just plain ignorant.

I'm not sure how Warmshowers reacts to that kind of thing as an organisation, but there's no reason you shouldn't tell them about it.

Personally I've only had good experiences since joining (not that I've used it much, but it's comfort to know it's there when you're out and about!).

unanswered requests

My experience couldn't be more different. I've had requests answered promptly and I answer requests the same day they're sent, often within an hour. Each person will have a different schedule, and a given host may even be traveling or otherwise out of touch with email. We need to make allowances -- WSL hosts are just regular people with regular lives.

But, if you feel that you've been blown off, that someone who got your message didn't reply, I think it's fair game to note that on the website as a "reference." Perhaps you'll get an explanation; or, others may learn that it's an unreliable lead.

Anyhow, don't condemn the whole WSL undertaking. Lots of us are getting very good results from it.

I have used the map method. I

I have used the map method. I found its not as useful as searching on couchsurfing.com because you cannot filter results by say, gender or activity. There are a lot of people who haven't logged in for a year. There are also a lot of people who have no reviews. So I find it is difficult to find people, and the few I thought were active didn't reply :(

anyway I like the idea of warmshowers because it is useful to be around people who understand cycling, and perhaps may live near bike shops, and I even thought I might find people to ride with but I haven't found any of these on here, ah well :(

"unregistered" replies ..??

I am not sure what " unregistered" means , tho i suspect it means the one-time member has Deleted themselves *after* posting some remark/ question here....

I have to say, I find it bizarre that the opinions of someone who is not even a "member" are worth the Archive space this Thread is occupying.
This website is absolutely chocked with irrelevant & outdated material that *hides* the useful parts.

Just Delete it, Admin.

Unregistered means, in this

Unregistered means, in this context, culled. When accounts are deactivated any posts by the member concerned go to the top of the Active Forum Topics, this is a known bug, just ignore the posts.

As for your other suggestion that admins spend their time poring over thousands of forum posts from up to 10 years ago to determine whether they are irrelevant or outdated, that's not how forums generally work (not to mention the colossal waste of time, we already have admins personally reviewing 100+ new profiles a day, I'd rather that time go to something useful).
