inconsiderate guest

I'm a host in central Michigan. I was contacted the day of an anticipated visit, even though I asked for 1-2 days notice. The 'guest' didn't arrive until 10 p.m. on a bike mostly powered by a gasoline engine. He is a vegan so providing special food at the last minute was a challenge. He sat watching the Tour de France until midnight when I finally told him I wanted to go to bed. He was pitching his tent in the backyard (as I wasn't comfortable with him sleeping in the house), but had no other camping supplies and asked me to furnish a blanket and pillow. He hinted that since he only had 35 miles to go the next day to the next warm showers host that he wanted to stay late the next day. I suggested he might want to actually pedal his bike there since it was a short day.

Unfortunately I didn't not recognize his name when he contacted me this year the same day he wanted hosting. He again showed up at 10 p.m. on his gasoline powered bike. This time I told him it was too late to provide anything but camping on the lawn. He declined and spent 15-20 minutes moaning about backtracking 7 miles to a campground.

Anyone wanting more information can contact me through this site.

Hi, Thanks for your post. How would we recognize this guest, aside from the motor noise? What names has this guest used? Thanks again.

His name is Aric Street. He is not a host himself.

Feedback essential

Please be sure to leave feedback for this member. It is essential that we use the feedback mechanism to build a better membership. Future hosts will benefit from knowing what to expect and the motor-driven guest may come to learn to be more respectful.

Please provide negative feedback

We ask members who have experiences like this to provide simple, factual, negative feedback. Just go to the members page and click the "provide feedback" link. It's on the right side of the profile page, under "Actions". That will let other members know about the issues.

Note that we ask members to provide feedback (more often positive or neutral, but certainly negative when warranted) for *every* hosting experience, whether as host or guest.

Thanks for your hospitality!

Randy, I'm not sure where you mean by the "member's page". I don't see any link labeled as such. Could you please give me more detail? Thanks.

Leaving feedback

Every member, including you, has a profile page on Warmshowers.org. You just need to find the member you had a problem with and click the "Leave feedback" button. The FAQ has an entry on How to provide feedback about a host or guest that may help. Maybe the Searching for members entry will help as well.

I'll follow up with more in a private message to you.

Thanks for your hospitality!
-Randy

Late arrivals

I had one person tell me they would be coming in the early evening and then not show up until after 10PM. This was with less than 24 hrs notice. Its not like I live in the boonies with no access to communication. When people are that inconsiderate, I just don't open the door.
