I don't think hostels should be given the status of WS hosts, but I think it would be a tremendous service to cyclists to have hostels listed in every area. Keep them in a different category, but have them come up on searches. When I'm touring, I prefer the personal contact of a WSL host, but the main thing is to secure lodgings. In the US, hostels are still relatively rare, so they wouldn't take much WS bandwidth to include. Perhaps in other parts of the world, they should be on a separate map layer.
Good question I'd love to know this also. I can vouch for the Cabot trail hostel in Pleasant Bay Nova Scotia. Cheap, clean, safe and very friendly.
