do not worry about the time I took. I am a mild computer luddite. I signed up once years ago and it took a while to get started again.
thanks!
Hey,
Thanks for all you do to make this hospitality opportunity available!

Registration
It would have been helpful to see a sample of what other people had written about themselves. I didn't know if I was writing too much or too little. Also would be helpful to know where and how many other warm showers locations are in my city. Am I the first? Am I one of 500? You obviously know all these answers, but as a newcomer I haven't a clue.
Re: Registration
Hi Dave,
In an attempt to keep warmshowers member's personal information secure, we don't allow the public access to member's profiles.
But once you have joined warmshowers then much of this information is readily available.
Hopefully you are aware that you can edit your warmshowers account at any time to make changes (please see the FAQ or send me an email if you need help with this).

Kevin

a little bit complicated
a little bit complicated because of the design i didnt find easy what and where i should do it
re: a little bit complicated
Hi antig,
Can you let us know specifically what you found difficult about the registration process?
And if you have any suggestions for improving it we would like to hear that too.
Thanks!

Sign-up feedback
No problems at all, though I wonder if confirming a user's ID and password in the same email message is considered best practice these days?
M.
Not best practice but...
No, it's certainly not best practice, but you'd be surprised how hard it is to get people to confirm and remember their password at all. So we continue on the old way.
The risks are not tremendously high. Anyone is able to sign up, so why steal someone else's account?
Registration
I had a problem signing up but realized I was on warmshowers.com. Not sure why, when I checked country United States it just sat there and wouldn't let me continue. I then went to warmshowers.org and was successful.
Great feedback!
Wow, thanks. You may have solved a problem many of our members have had. Going to warmshowers.com is *supposed* to redirect you to warmshowers.org, and I see it doesn't. I'll see if I can fix this.
Thanks!

Bonjour à tous
Aucun souci pour m'inscrire, cela a été rapide et efficace.
Minor Registration Issue...
I'm unable to host anyone right now, but I registered to be available to answer questions and provide advice (e-mail or telephone) about my region. Unfortunately, the pull-down menu for the number of people whom I am able to host did not have a choice for zero...
Re: Minor Registration Issue...
Hi Martin,
Welcome to warmshowers!
While we understand why the option of zero would apply in your case I don't think that we need to add it to the values listed in the pull-down menu. If we did add it and members began selecting it (either on purpose or as an error) it could cause some confusion when others read their profile.
In your situation you have clearly written that you cannot host anyone now -- so no one should be confused when they see that you have "1" listed as the number of people you can host.

Kevin

Hi there,
No problem with the registration. I also would like to mention the useful and friendly videos posted on the website. Thanks to all of you that make this network alive !
Marcel
lovely
I didn't watch the video but it was easy. I don't use this site as much as my couchsurfing one, but still I like it. Simple. and easy.
Signing up is a breeze.
I had no difficulty in signing up. My confirmation email arrived immediately! The information requested is the sort that I expected. Nothing unnecessary. Looking forward to using the site and making new friends!

Signing up
My experience was great with signing up! I accidently went to a new page after I filled in the information so I had to start over, but that was my fault! :)
Slight inconsistency:
The number of people whom I am able to host is at least 1, which is contradictory to the possibility that I can choose not to host people at the moment.
signing up
Signing up with warmshowers.org was more than a little bit frustrating. I didn't get a validation email right away, or the second time I requested it, or the third or the fourth or the fifth. I gave up until I got an email threatening me with deletion. I responded in a fairly strong manner and did eventually get added. I suppose the squeaky wheel gets the grease, but there is not reason to make the process so difficult!
Validating email PLUS excellent customer service from you
Thank you, Randy, for your kind assistance and offer to validate manually. I must have overlooked the first email but this one I caught and clicked. We are all IN now. We look forward to hosting in the future. Our business is Bed & Breakfast at the Twin Mansions and we have plenty of room for tents plus can offer complimentary full bath with shower AND laundry privileges. Always if we have guest room available we'll provide!

Opening an account
I did not watch the video on how to open an account. Had no problems signing up. Hope we can help someone someday.
This is a Slammin' Idea!
I am telling the other groups I am part of, that this grassroots service exists. One group I am part of, a recumbent tricycle group, is spread out, as you might imagine.
I am proposing this as a means that we can travel to different parts of the country to visit.
Thanks for such an answer to prayer!

Sign up process
Hi! The signup was great, but one little thing.....I got booted back to the page in order to add a http:// tag to my website, even though I had a www tag.....really minor detail.
piece of cake
i watched the youtube vids first...although i don't think i would have had any trouble had i not done so.
Thanks
Michael
Thank you
Thank you very much. The sign up was not too complicated for my wife and myself, especially as we are not expert computer users.
Broken link
The signup process was just fine, but it contains a broken link. The very first instruction in the signup is: "right now, before submitting this form, please add wsl@warmshowers.org to your Spam whitelist. Instructions on how to do it on many email providers are here." The "here" link is "http://www.warmshowers.org/spam_filters" but it is broken
This has been fixed. Thanks!
This has been fixed. Thanks!
Re: Broken link
Hi Clyde,
You are correct about this broken link. It is actually on our list of things to fix on the warmshowers website but hasn't been addressed yet. However I will see about putting something together to provide this information until that page is recovered.

Kevin

I agree being able to offer a photo or two. Might even help the weary cyclist find a hard to spot home in less than
ideal conditions. Just a thought
I am looking forward to opening my home and hosting folks

your form was very good and quick! have you thought about being able to add photos on the host sites, might give the cyclist a idea of what is offered! thanks again!
Great site
No problems at all in setting up my account. Thanks for creating and supporting this network! -Alex
Registration
Good streamlined process.
The system did, however, require me to re-enter my password and complained about the URL format. The second effort on the password worked fine, as did the re-entry of the website URL (which I just re-typed *exactly* as before), so overall it was pretty smooth.
I have homes in Canada (summer) and Florida (winter) and have made both available for guests. When I tried to sign up with the second home, I kept getting rejected because the system already had my e address and password for the first home. Fortunately, I have a second e mail account and was able to resolve the problem eventually. It would be so much easier if you could provide for more than 1 host location for the same account.
Re: Sign Up
Hi Tom,
The system software checks for existing warmshowers accounts that have the same email address; if it finds one then -- as you discovered -- the system will not let you create a new account.
While your suggestion to allow multiple addresses for a single account has merit it is not viable with the software that we are using. And modifying the software would be a major task (please keep in mind that there are only a few people who administer this site on a part-time, voluntary basis).
Our solution to the situation where warmshowers members have more than one location where they are willing to host is just what you have done: create additional accounts. If the member has only one email address that they check often then we can create a forwarding email address for you (i.e., from the system perspective you appear to have different email addresses but all messages are delivered to a single email account).

Kevin

Map locator
I registered and it gave me some error message for the map locator and told me to start over. However, registration did go through, so I'll figure out the map locator thing as soon as I log in.
Good process otherwise.
Re: Map locator
Hi Mark,
We're interested in hearing about any problem you may have had registering. I know that you have your map location set up correctly now but if you'd like to follow up on this problem please send us an email (my address is below).

sign-on
setting the Geo location (rating of 5?) manually was not possible because at that time my new account was not yet confirmed. Everything esle was perfect; good job. Thanks!
re: sign-on
Hi Mike,
As you discovered you need to have a validated warmshowers account before you are permitted to access the map and change your location. And I see that you have done so successfully.
The accuracy of your placement on the map is a generally a function of how much information you provide. For example if you provide a street address the software does a better job of locating you accurately than if you choose to only list your city/state.

general
Looking forward to perhaps giving back to fellow travelers.
Log in went fine, but I would have liked more info on personal security while I was filling it out, rather than afterwards. Concerned about filling in space with full name, address, phone number without any idea as to how protected that info is.
Re: Log In
I see what you are talking about -- no reference is made to personal security until after your warmshowers account is created. I'll see if we can't move this to the webpage where your account is created, as you suggest.
Regards,
Kevin

Re: Log In
I just wanted to let you know that the reference to personal security has been added to the webpage where your warmshowers account is created.

first visitor in Kittery, Maine
Thank you for allwowing us here in Kittery Maine to be part of your excellent program. We are older but healthy and love biking. First visitor will be very welcomed....and hopefully many more to follow. We also hope to be able to receive when we go out. Our goal one day is to do the coast to coast trip. Any idea for books to read?
Reading suggestion
Hi Danielle,
While it's not a book, have you seen the journals located on the CrazyGuyOnABike website (http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/)? There are numerous journals of folks who have done coast-to-coast bike tours here.
If there are some specific questions that you have, you may want to consider asking them in one of the forums on this website (see http://www.warmshowers.org/forum for a list of the available forums).

Password and Username combo
The application process wasn't too painful, though I had to start over once. I am not sure if the system did not pull in province/state information for Argentina because I lost Internet connection about that time, or if there is none available. I wrote the state in with my city.
But my big complaint is that you sent my username/password combo in an email to me. Email is plain text and unencrypted. You should either generate a temporary password and send that to me for me to change in my profile, or not send the password in the email.
